NEWSLETTER II
Oct 3, 2005
On September 29th at a special meeting, the Oro Valley Town Council passed a
resolution requesting and authorizing transfer of 2004 Pima County bond
funds from the Naranja Town site park acquisition to the Steam Pump Ranch.
The addition to the Naranja park site had become too expensive to pursue.
The Pima County Bond Advisory Committee voted unanimously to recommend that
the Pima County Board of Supervisors transfer $3M funding to the Steam Pump
Ranch.
In a letter to Town Manager, Chuck Sweet, Pima County Administrator Chuck
Huckleberry wrote:
"As County Administrator, my view is that it may be appropriate
to consider a transfer of all Naranja Town Site Park funds to
Steam Pump ranch rehabilitation since property value escalation
has effectively precluded the Naranja Town Site Park acquisition,
and it would be beneficial to invest those funds necessary to not
only acquire Steam Pump Ranch and rehabilitate the existing
historic buildings, but also to build new structures as a museum.
This would in effect allow for the timely opening of a historic
Steam Pump Ranch Park."
We certainly hope that the Pima County Board of Supervisors vote to follow
Chuck Huckleberry's recommendation and that the Oro Valley Town Council can
follow through with obtaining the Steam Pump Ranch.
Note.....
The Pima County Board of Supervisors passed this resolution unanimously, mid October 2005, bringing the total Steam Pump Ranch funds to about $5M.
