Ongoing Programs and Activities
1.
Acquiring and sustaining Members and Volunteers
*
Develop committees for key program areas (Collections, Membership,
Fundraising,
Education, Programs, Long-range Planning).
* Develop communications and marketing
strategies.
* Produce bi-monthly newsletter and maintain
up-to-date web site.
2.
Fundraising and Development
* Pursue grants, plan fund raising events, solicit
donations, select and
market appropriate merchandise.
3. Oral Histories
*
Conduct training for volunteers in procedures and equipment so oral interviews
may be carried out with individuals who are
knowledgeable about the past in the area.
*
Conduct training so interviews are properly transcribed and archived for public
access.
4.
Society Programs and Educational Activities
* Plan and schedule general meetings
and special educational programs.
* Participate in community
festivals and events to further OVHS mission.
* Prepare exhibits for
the Library display cases; prepare related articles.
5.
Acquiring and curating historical collections
* Acquire, inventory, accession,
store and insure donated materials in conformance
with Society Collections
Policy, to be developed.
Projects
1. Steam Pump Ranch Master Plan
* Support Town planning for site restoration
and historical exhibits.
* Initiate guidelines for guided site tours.
2.
Honey Bee Village Archaeological Preserve
*
Develop a documentary in DVD format about the excavations at Honey Bee
Village for use in area schools.
*
Participate with Canada Vistas LLC in development plans surrounding the
Preserve.
3.
George Pusch Historical Collection
* Review donated documents, prepare
appropriate descriptions and accession
numbers for entry into OVHS Past Perfect Museum software. Place materials
in archival containers. Scan
documents and photos for back-up and use purposes.
4.
Key Policies and Procedures
* Develop and document policy
and procedures to effectively and accurately
conduct oral history
interviews. Conduct initial training to implement program.
*
Develop and document policy and procedures for acquisition of historical items
and collections from potential donors.
